Odisha – Attack on Sikh businessman in front of police

: As opposition BJP and Congress slammed the commissionerate police over Tuesday’s brutal assault on businessman Parvinder Pal Singh in the presence of police in Laxmisagar area, Akali Dal on Wednesday came down heavily on the police inaction and negligence.

In a tweet, Akali Dal’s national spokesperson Manjider S Sirsa said Singh was attacked as latter had opposed recent demolition of Mangu mutt in Puri. “Shocked and angry to see such a merciless hate attack on Amritdhari Sikh Parvinder Pal Singh ji in Bhubaneshwar; the attack looks planned and with full support of local administration. Singh was attacked cos he protested against demolition of Sikh Heritage Mangu Mutt in Puri. I condemn this attack which is a blot on Indian democracy & appeal to Odisha police to take action against culprits,” tweeted Sirsa.

Earlier, BJP and Congress leaders blamed the commissionerate police for the attack on Singh and alleged that the law and order situation worsened during BJD regime. BJP also alleged that the attackers were supporters of ruling BJD.

BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra denied charges of the opposition. “It is (assault on Singh) is completely a criminal action. Police have taken immediate action against the perpetrators. Opposition should not politicise a purely criminal action,” read Sasmit’s written statement.
