Punjab bypolls: Congress lure migrant voters with popular Bhojpuri singer, dancers

To woo migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh settled in Phagwara, Congress on Tuesday late evening organised a special event in which a popular Bhojpuri singer and women dancers entertained people.

The event was organised in Onkar Nagar area near JCT Mills where several migrant families are settled. Sources in the Congress revealed that the area is a stronghold of BJP and played a crucial role in the victory of Union minister Som Parkash in 2017 assembly elections and in the 2019 parliamentary polls.

The event witnessed a good turnout of migrant population and police had to intervene to keep things in order. As Khushboo Tiwari sang her popular numbers, women dancers performed against the backdrop of Congress hoardings. Appeals were made to the people to vote for Congress.

Industries minister Sunder Sham Arora, who is in-charge of the Congress campaign here, and party candidate Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal were also present at the event for sometime. Arora justified the event saying it was held to entertain people of the area.
