BJP´s Direct Attack on Sikhism

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced that welcome gates on Shahbad-Barara and Kapalmochan-Lohgarh roads would be made in the name of Banda Bairagi. The ITI in Barana village and community health centre (CHC) at Sonipat would also be named after the warrior.

Sikhs objected to the state-level function as they claimed Baba Banda Bairagi “did not belong to the Bairagi community, but was Sikh martyr”. Gurdeep Singh Ramba, state president, United Sikh Federation, said he had raised the issue as the warrior was mentioned as Baba Banda Bairagi instead of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. The warrior had been martyred after adopting Sikhism, he added. He said that we submitted letters in this regard to the DC Panipat and Karnal on Saturday evening. As we reached Madhuban in Karnal, the police detained members of the Haryana State Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) and United Sikh Association on NH-1, he said. After the programme, a four-member delegation was allowed to go to Panipat and meet the Chief Minister, he said. The CM assured us that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was a great fighter and he worked for the welfare of society. Rajiv Jain, media adviser to Chief Minister, said that members of Sikh community met the Chief Minister and he pacified them. The matter has been resolved as the CM said that martyrs belong to all communities in his speech also, he added. The Sikh youths only have an issue with the name of the warrior, Jain maintained.
