Nawaz Sharif arrested on arrival in Pakistan

Pakistan’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was arrested in Lahore airport on Friday as he returned to face a 10-year prison sentence which he claimed was part of a wide-ranging, military-backed conspiracy to deny his party a second term in an election due on 25 July.The deadliest attack in Pakistan’s troubled election campaign has killed more than 120 people, including a candidate, as disgraced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif returned home to face arrest.Mr Sharif returned late on Friday from London along with his daughter Maryam to face a 10-year prison sentence on corruption charges.Maryam Sharif faces seven years in jail.He was taken into custody to serve his sentence, however he is expected to appeal and seek bail.
