Two SHOs under scanner for inaction against peddlers

Sangrur:A day after the suspension of six cops, including the Station House Officers (SHOs) of Sherpur and Malerkotla-2, for not taking action against drug peddlers, SSP Mandeep Sidhu on Monday ordered a departmental inquiry against the SHOs of Sangrur city and Bhawanigarh police stations for failing to perform their duty.

Moonak DSP Ajay Pal Sigh has been directed to conduct an inquiry against Sangrur City SHO Vinod Kumar, while Ahmedgarh DSP Palwinder Singh Cheema has been deputed to probe the charges against Bhawanigarh SHO Charanjiv Lamba. Both have been directed to submit their reports at the earliest.

Sources said it had come to light that both SHOs had not played an active role in the special campaign against drugs despite the directions of the state government. “Both are posted on very responsible positions, but the lack of interest shown by them in the anti-drug campaign is condemnable and needs to be punished,” says the order issued by the SSP.

The SSP said, “The performance of both SHOs has been below expectations. They will face action, depending on the findings of the inquiry.” On Sunday, the SSP had suspended Sherpur SHO Rakesh Kumar, Malerkotla-2 police station SHO Nirmal Singh, ASI Darshan Singh and head constables Karnail Singh, Deepak Kumar and Nirmal Singh for not acting against drug peddlers and gamblers.
