Dera visit: Sri Akal Takht Sahib warns Rajinder Kaur Bhattal of stern action

Amritsar: Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal may face Panthic action if she failed to tender an apology before Sri Akal Takht Sahib for visiting the Sirsa dera ahead of the Assembly elections last year.
Giani Gurbachan Singh said like other political leaders, Bhattal too would have to abide by the Akal Takht’s directions for the atonement of her fault.
On March 7, she was spotted in Amritsar, along with her party colleagues, to participate in the bhog ceremony of former Cabinet minister Sardool Singh Bandala, who had died recently.
On April 17 last year, Akal Takht had awarded ‘tankhah’ (religious punishment) to 39 leaders of various political parties after finding them guilty of violating its May 2007 edict to boycott dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim  over his alleged impersonation of Guru Gobind Singh. The Akal Takht had not fixed a particular time frame, but asked them to appear as early as possible.
As many as 10 Congress leaders underwent “tankhah”, but Bhattal and Arjun Badal, son of Cabinet minister Manpreet Badal, failed to turn up at Akal Takht.
While Bhattal reportedly cited health reasons for her not appearing before the Takht, Arjun had been studying overseas and showed his inability to turn up.
Bhattal said she belonged to a ‘secular’ party like Congress whose ideology was to distance itself from any religious front.
Giani Gurbachan Singh said, “Whatever justification Bhattal had with her, she should submit it in writing at Akal Takht as soon as possible. If she fails to comply, she should be ready to face action as per the Sikh principles. Same goes for Arjun.”
She said, “My colleagues went to serve as per the Akal Takht direction in their individual capacity. I could not appear before the Takht as I was unwell then. I have not decided whether I would go to Akal Takht or not. I bow my head before the supreme temporal seat of Sikhs, but the order in question is a political one.”
